Don't Feed the Ducks:

It Makes Them Dependent

by R.S. Rood

Don’t Feed the Ducks is a charming children’s tale about the dangers of feeding ducks on the pond, as the ducks grow too dependent and forget how to fend for themselves!

This delightful story recounts what actually happened in Ashland, Oregon, when the townspeople fed and spoiled the ducks on the pond in the park, not understanding that their acts of love and kindness were indeed harmful. What was the amazing solution to this terrible problem?”

Don’t Feed the Ducks is a wonderful metaphor for all of God’s animals and people, teaching children everywhere that true love requires us to help keep them free and self-reliant as they were created to be, rather than… dependent.

About
The Author

Born in 1950 and raised in Mount Vernon, Washington.

R.S. Rood (Bob) has been in pastoral ministry since 1985 as associate pastor, then as senior pastor of Psalm of Life Christian Church from 1990 to present.  Besides pastoring, preaching, teaching and counseling, Bob since 1983 is a trained evangelist.

Linda, his wife of 40 years, ministered with Bob as a pastoral couple.   Together they have ministered to hundreds of people.  Through their ministry of personal evangelism, many hundreds have come to faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savoir.  By 1985 they could, by name, count hundreds of souls saved.  They have long since lost count, as their service in the Great Commission carries on.

They have 6 children, 22 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.  For 20 years they have lived in Central Point, OR on a small farm overlooking the beautiful Rogue Valley.  As a family they were into horses.  High mountain horse camping, trail riding and 25 mile endurance horse competitions. Pastor Bob was the only college educated farrier (horse shoer) in Southern Oregon.  Many of his customers were baptized in the cold rivers and streams and lakes of Southern Oregon.  Pastor  Bob likes to joke that the colder the water, the more effective the baptism.

They are semi retired now, content to watch their many grandchildren grow-up.  Though they still do some teaching and preaching, marrying and burying, they have turned their attention to passing on some of the rich, exciting and satisfying life lessons Christ as allowed them to live and learn.
